Future Blacktail was a pivotal figure in the history of Astrea, known for his relentless pursuit of vengeance and mastery over time. His journey began much like his alternate self, but took a drastic turn after the tragic events that led to the death of his party at the hands of Diarmata.

Early Life

Blacktail was born among his kin in the den of a fearsome black dragon. Like many of his kind, he lived in servitude until he managed to escape. For a few months, he enjoyed a brief period of freedom before being captured by agents of the Empire under Diarmata. Unbeknownst to him, Diarmata had foreseen a future where the Empire fell due to Blacktail and his party.

The Original Timeline

In the original timeline, Diarmata succeeded in his plans and killed all but Blacktail. Fueled by grief and a burning desire for vengeance, Blacktail spent the next few years devising a plan to revive his fallen comrades and overthrow Diarmata. Recognizing his short lifespan as a hindrance, he sought refuge in the Farrión Woods, where he created an area where time passed much slower for him. This gave him the time he needed to develop a plan involving time travel to stop Diarmata.

The Time Loop

Time travel, however, proved to be far more complicated than Blacktail anticipated. Countless attempts to alter the past—ranging from assassinating Diarmata as a child to preventing his party from ever forming—ended in failure. Each attempt either caused paradoxes or led to the same tragic outcome. Blacktail's meddling with time ultimately trapped him in a loop, forcing him to relive the same events repeatedly.

Resignation and Final Plan

Accepting the hard truth that he would not live to see his plan succeed, Blacktail resolved to ensure success for an alternate version of himself. He resigned himself to his fate and executed one final plan. He usurped the black dragon that once enslaved him, taking its place in its den. To maintain the facade, he went as far as "killing" his own sister, Whitetail, ensuring his alternate self would follow the same path.

Guiding the Alternate Blacktail

From his position of power, Future Blacktail subtly guided his alternate self and his friends, orchestrating events that brought them into contact with "The Five"—guardians of the Five Seals and ancient weapons of Astrea's first heroes. These weapons alone held the power to break the magical bond created by a goddess with the first Emperor of Cassea. Future Blacktail's ultimate goal was to guide the party to confront Diarmata at "The First Island," the impact site of Astrea's third moon, a massive artificial construct by Astrea's long-extinct pre-Sundering inhabitants.

The Battle of the First Island

When Diarmata resorted to forbidden ancient magics, Future Blacktail called upon alternate future versions of his friends, leading to the climactic Battle of the First Island. Together, they defeated Diarmata. Emperor Exceus executed Diarmata for his treachery and abdicated his crown, marking the end of the Empire's tyranny.

The End of the Time Loop

With Diarmata's defeat and the time loop broken, a future was ensured for Blacktail and his friends. Future Blacktail, having fulfilled his purpose, finally found peace. He flew off to a distant corner of Astrea to take his well-deserved and final rest.

Legacy

Future Blacktail's legacy is one of sacrifice, resilience, and the complex nature of time. His actions ensured the success of his alternate self and brought an end to Diarmata's pseudo-reign of terror. Though his journey was marked by hardship and repeated failure, his unwavering determination ultimately saved Astrea.
